Amy Ayanda reimagines the notion of a personal tribute with gripping new single, Rose
‘Rose’ is Amy’s first single since her debut EP 'Ab Ovo', which was released exactly a year ago and dealt with life’s intricacies from conception to death. ‘Rose’ continues this journey by speaking to the transformation of her mother’s presence in her life, which has since shifted from the physical to the spiritual. The raw honesty of Amy's lyrics beautifully expresses her position as a young mother who became pregnant unexpectedly, while her own mother was struggling with cancer.

Her latest single is self-produced and was recorded at Red Bull Studios Cape Townby band members Dean Berger, Daniel Breiter, Glenn Stein and Jesse Gillis. Accompanied on backing vocals by Cape Town singer Albany Lore, the band decided to take a new approach to their writing and recording process by eschewing their usual heavy reliance on electronics and building their new collection of songs on more standard instrumentation. Mixed by Berklee graduate Vicente Espi, the calm of Amy’s melody and lyrics is set against the driving bass that echoes the difficult personal growth of the artist over the past year.
