FRANCOIS VAN COKE kicked off his own TV show called Die Van Coke Show on kykNET on 8th October 2018. The show, centred on Francois’ passions and interests, is a mix of a game and talk show where the celebrity contestants frantically and hilariously compete to win absolutely nothing. It’s a show where Francois guests poke fun at the craziness of this world.

A highlight of Die Van Coke show is that its participants have to follow clues and guess which Afrikaans hit Francois will cover, with a rock ‘n roll twist, at the end of each show.

There are 13 episodes in this series which means that there are 13 songs sprouting from the TV show. The “mystery” song is released on digital platforms and its accompanying performance music video on YouTube every Monday evening after the show.

The first song Francois covered was Gé Korsten’s evergreen hit, Liefling.  This iconic song quickly reached the iTunes singles chart.  Other releases from the show so far are Koos Kombuis’ Onder in my whiskeyglas and Karlien van Jaarsveld’s Geskeurde Jeans.

This week it was Sonja Herold’s ballad, Ek verlang na jou’s (I miss you) turn.

How does Francois choose these popular old and new Afrikaans hits into which he breaths a rock ‘n roll air?

“I’ve wanted to cover a collection of Afrikaans songs for a long time coming and the show is now a perfect opportunity to do so.  I chose the songs because I like them for different reasons. It had to be iconic (even if it’s only in my head) songs.  Some of them were done for ironic reasons and I wanted to see how Die Gevaar and I can do it in our style,” says Francois.

Die Van Coke Show airs at 20h30 on Monday evenings on kykNET DStv channel 144.
