THE TIME FLIES ALBUM LAUNCH

Following recent social commentary calling out various local artists who try to sound Americanised on the web, there is some good news for those seeking African inspired music from local acts that are as far-removed from the US music copy machine as logical thought is from Donald Trump. The Time Flies present a multi-dimensional, vibrant sound in their latest offering that reflects the many faces and tastes of Southern Africa

The Time Flies are a five piece conglomeration that pedals superior Afro-country-skunk-funk, hailing from a shady warehouse of ill repute next to an Indie record shop in Observatory, EsCape Town.

On Saturday, 21 May the masters of time, space and dimension will be launching their album, Wingin’ It at the Blah Blah Bar 84 Kloof Street, Gardens. According to the group, “Wingin’ It has been in the making for nearly 40 years; making it one of the biggest releases in the local music dimension in the past 40 years, possibly”. The album’s wide range of influences include AfroCubism, Arthur Mafokate, Balkan Beat Box, Brenda Fassie, The Soul Brothers, Fatima Spa, Fela Kuti, Firewater, The Green Arrows, Jim White, Kraak & Smaak, Nomadic Orchestra, Spoek Mathambo, Toby2Shoes, Trouble Funk, Skatalites, Skomplazi, Primus, Violent Femmes, Vusi Mahlasela & Louis Mhlanga.

Their first single to be released is the African-Ska track titled, EJungle, is available on SoundCloud HERE

EJungle embodies the grooviest of riffs, infectious beats and a vibe that radiates South African flavour like a true local brew. The track is the perfect starter to introduce Wingin’ It to the unsuspecting masses.

Apart from feeding off audience juices, the crew consisting of Graeme Warhol (guitars), Tessa 'Kitty Paws' Gawith (korgi keyboard/vox), Cas Raas (drums), Mister Harris (bass guitar/vox) and frontman, Hillman Vogue (sax/vox) like to dress up for gigs with garments from Cape Town’s lost and found box- some of which should perhaps have stayed lost. The Wingin’ It launch will be no different and guests are urged to come dressed pink or green, or as a time fly, a clock, a time machine, another dimension, a sticky mess. to be eligible for a best-dressed prize. Info on this can be found on The Time Flies’ event page.
