OPEN THE CITY SEARCH IS ON

Building on the enormous success of last year’s ‘Open the City’ competition, Vodacom is once again offering SA’s rock and indie bands the opportunity to win the coveted slot as the only local band on the fully international line-up at this year’s Vodacom In the City (VITC).

Taking place in Newtown’s Mary Fitzgerald Square on 3 October 2014, #VITC2014 is back! With an expected audience of 15,000 screaming fans, the winning band will share the spotlight alongside Rudimental, MGMT, Crystal Fighters and The Presets.

For last year’s winning band, Cape Town’s Al Bairre, playing at Vodacom In The City has propelled the band further in the local music scene. "Being voted by the public as the winner of Vodacom Open The City last year was such a dream,” says the band. “We were treated like royalty the whole day and got to rub shoulders with and perform alongside some of our international musical heroes.Performing to so many people on such a large scale really cemented our thinking that this is definitely something we want to pursue further."

In order to enter just go to www.vitc.co.za. There’s a simple form that needs to be filled in along with links to music, a band logo and photo must also be uploaded. All entries will be whittled down to the top four finalists by a panel of industry specialists. The fans then get to vote for their favourite local act.

All four finalists will also get to perform at the pre-party to garner votes at The Vodacom Open the City Session at Townhall in Jo’burg on 5 September 2014.

The winning act will get to “Open the City” for the likes of MGMT and Rudimental and get paid a tidy little sum of R30,000 for the pleasure of rocking out on the main stage.

If you fit the following criteria, enter before midnight on 13 August 2014.

· Your band must have a minimum of two years live performance experience

· Your band must have played to an audience of at least 2000 attendees

· You must have a minimum of 45 (forty five) minutes of original material

· You must have been playlisted on a commercial or campus radio station
