Today sees the official release of a brand new song and video from MEDICINE BOY, entitled E.V.I.L.
“Looking out over the courtyard at the dirty walls, he realized he had no idea whether it was hysteria or love.” - Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being. E.V.I.L. was written in 2015 and the duo describes it as one of the songs which just came naturally whilst playing around with riffs and ideas. Lucy came up with the first line and the basic melody and Andre coloured in the rest. The video was shot at the end of March 2016 in a bar in Long Street, Cape Town and directed by Mark Leonard. It takes place in an in-between world where lost lovers have gathered and come to be saved/sacrificed/sabotaged/seduced. They are drawn together by an unlikely figure and find some kind of deliverance through giving in and letting go.
“The music video is a kind of celebration of the strange.” The concept of the video centers around a space for lost lovers and a desire to be found. The song deals with a very similar theme - and both find their desired effect through an inevitable hysteria and wild abandon. “We feel excited that people finally get to hear some new music and hope it makes them look forward to the whole album. We’ve never really been a ‘single’ band. We prefer listeners to take in the whole record but we are extremely happy with how the video and track came out and feel it’s a good first taste of things to come.”
MEDICINE BOY’s Debut LP, KINDA LIKE ELECTRICITY is set for release on 15 August 2016.
