It's been a whirlwind week for our king of rock 'n roll, Francois van Coke. He welcomed his first child into the world (Welcome Alex Lila Badenhorst!) and today he launches his first single from his 2nd solo album, "Hierdie is die Lewe".
Francois on Mensdom: “We all have one thing in common – we live, even if everything else is different. This song is about life and living with victories as well as mistakes. It is a grungy blues sing-along song about being human.”
This video serves as both an appetizer for the new album and to introduce Francois’ band, Die Gevaar.
With classic rock influences Francois keeps it real with his latest release. “I’ve been listening to older pop tunes by Beach Boys and The Beatles and their influences can be heard on my album’s melodies and sound. There are still a few rock ‘n roll numbers and some ballads,” says Francois.
The album launches on 2 Feb 2017.
“Hierdie is die Lewe is about life, the good, the bad, love and hate, the past, the future and the present.” FRANCOIS VAN COKE
This album is the natural progression from his successful and acclaimed self-titled debut album and can be viewed as a snapshot of where Francois is in his life right now. The sound is similar to the first album and Francois stays introspective.
Francois crafted the songs over time with his band, Die Gevaar. Hierdie is die Lewe was produced by Johnny de Ridder (Fokofpolisiekar guitarist) and Rudolph Willemse (Francois’ bassist) at Soft Light City in Bellville. The drums were recorded by Jürgen Von Mechmar at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town.
The Mensdom single, plus another track from the album, Klein Prys (Small Price) is available on a 7” vinyl from Permanent Record .
“Klein Prys is my tribute to Fokofpolisiekar,” says Francois about this song’s inclusion on the 7” vinyl.
It will be on sale at shows and via the Permanent Record online store.
